Internet search deal
Microsoft and Yahoo! are teaming up for a deal in an attempt to grab Internet search market share from Google.

A release Wednesday from the companies said Yahoo! will sell ads while Microsoft shares its Bing search technology to help searches via Yahoo! The agreement is expected to be worth billions of dollars.

It also could cut into the stranglehold that Google has on the search market. An estimated 65 percent of Internet searches go through Google. Yahoo is second at slightly less than 20 percent and Microsoft is at less than 10 percent, industry data indicate.

Google and Yahoo! had tried to cut an advertising deal in 2008 but it ended after federal regulatory concerns were raised.

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer, in the release, said the agreement will provide Microsoft's search engine, Bing, the scale necessary to more effectively compete, attracting more users and advertisers, which in turn will lead to more relevant ads and search results.

I doubt they will hurt Google much. I'm a Googler.

I ususally use webcrawler.com. It's an ad-free site which combines search results from Google and a few other search engines.

I use to use a site that would search 10 sites at once but Google seemed to be the one I used most.

I've been using webcrawler since 1996, it was just the first one I found that I liked. It presently includes results from Google, Microsoft live search, Yahoo!, and Ask.com. And still... NO ADS

I stayed off the main stream and hung out on the Dear Abby boards where there was a group of regulars that were pretty cool. The Dear Abby regs even formed our own Yahoo Group which is still active to this day.

The whole idea is to get there names in the news. I remember before Google all you heard about was Yahoo. Now they are trying to get it mentioned enough people will try it out. It's sort of like advertising but you don't have to pay for it when the news people will do it for you. It's a lot cheaper that way.

Well it works like one but I'm not sure if they have their own search engine or if they just combine results from other search engines and lay them out for you. However they do it, on tough searches I've found that they sometimes yield slightly different results than I get just by querying Google alone.

I know what you mean. When I Google something and get 1,964,674 hits I know there are a couple I'm missing. Really pisses me off!

lol Often webcrawler will return a lower hit count than google.

Hard to believe how fast it can find all those sites. But I do like Google.

Well it works like one but I'm not sure if they have their own search engine or if they just combine results from other search engines and lay them out for you. most seem to repeat the same stuff. google seems to be about the best
