Psychic Accused Of Scamming Clients Of 'Evil' Cash

A suburban Denver psychic is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from clients
by telling them "money is evil" and that she needed to know their credit card numbers
to make sure there weren't too many sixes.

Fifty-four-year-old Nancy Marks of Lafayette faces charges of theft and criminal impersonation.
A customer of Marks' company Psychic Reading told authorities Marks advertised low-cost palm reading.

Police say one client lost $50,000 after giving Marks his credit card numbers when she said
that "anything with the number six in it is bad" and that she would "draw out the bad energy."

Instead, police say Marks made large purchases at department stores.

Marks was held, with bond set at $250,000. Her attorney says she has no criminal convictions.

NEW YORK (Reuters) –

Just a pat on the back or a reassuring touch on the arm can be a powerful tool
to influence behaviour, according to new research.

And it could determine whether someone invests in a risky financial venture
or decides to play it safe.

"It's a very effective way of suddenly influencing people's behaviour without them
realizing they are being influenced,"
said Jonathan Levav, a professor of business and marketing at Columbia University in New York.


Levav 's findings, which are reported in the journal Psychological Science,
are based on a series of experiments involving touch :

In one study 67 men and women were asked to choose between a cash payoff and a risky gamble
and then touched on the shoulder and back by male and female researchers.



People who were lightly touched on the shoulder by a woman were more likely to select
the option with the most risk.


"A simple pat on the back of the shoulder by a female in a way that connotes support may evoke feelings
that are similar to the sense of security afforded by a mother's comforting touch in infancy,"
they wrote in the study.

18 CommentsSimply massive scenes in Germany, this morning, where a psychic octopus has predicted that the Old Enemy will come out as victors of Sunday's colossal World Cup fixture.

At Oberhausen Sea Life Centre the mollusc named Paul (born in England, the Judas...) has correctly forecast the outcome of all Germany's games so far. He also boasted an 80% record when he predicted how Germany would do at Euro 2008.

Two plastic boxes, one with the St George's cross and one with the German flag were lowered into Paul's tank. Each had some tasty food inside. The box which Paul opened was judged to be the winner of the game.

Sure enough the eight legged oracle ghosted towards the Germany box and tucked in.

That's it then. England may as well pack their bags.

Tango loves it so while web searching for a Mother of the Bride dress this weekend, I watched some of it

it's kinda cool, pretty hardcore action, lots of extended running around and feigning boo-boo's for
some kind of credit or opponent penalty ?

I had a person like this go down and heal my dad's cancer, then healed him out of ssome cold hard cash. Shortly after he died. So I guess he only healed him of that evil cach.

Great door and sidelights, your house must be huge...

The house isn't huge but it has a wide entry. It's actually 3 doors and the two side ones are fixed and just the center one opens. So it was large enough I could have an interesting design. But thanks glad you like it. It looks really great from the inside with the sun out. I'm a big Frank Lloyd Wright fan and he did a house in 1904 and the window was 3 trees. So I took the design and seperateted the trees and made them longer and wider. We are pretty happy with them. The bare branches in the center represent winter and the other colors are green, red and a brown/yellow/green. The red is for my Japanese Maples and the other colors are for the trees in the summer and fall. We picked out the colors and design. We changed the design several times till we came up with this one. It was nice to be able to pick everything out and have input on the design.
