Indiana Teacher Fired for Taping Shut Student's Mouth

Friday, January 16, 2009
14:04 PST Lafayette, Ind. (AP)

A school board in Indiana has fired a middle school teacher who placed duct tape
over a special-needs student's mouth to keep him from talking in class

The board of Tippecanoe School Corp. voted Wednesday to cancel Pamela Dahnke's contract.
She was an eighth-grade health and nutrition teacher at Battle Ground Middle School in West Lafayette.

Superintendent Scott Hanback says the September taping incident "cannot be tolerated."

The board also says Dahnke failed to implement the student's program for special needs
and that she returned to the school after being told to leave.

The Journal & Courier of Lafayette reported Wednesday that Dahnke said she was unaware
the board had made a decision. A call to a listing for Dahnke was not answered Friday.

When I was a pledge in a fraternity one of the guys had to tie a string around his balls, run the string up thru his shirt and out the top and tie it too a pen. Next he had to go around and get the signatures of several females. Can't remember the number of sigs he needed but some new what was going on and some didn't. The ones that didn't would jerk on the pen so they could sign.

As for me I had a teacher lock me in a supply room. I kept making screwing around so she stuck me in there. It was really a large room but once I got bored I sratched at the door and wimppered like a dog. She finally let me out. It wasn't abuse it was just pretty funny...but you had to be there.

the mdidle school i went to had these little openings in the walls where you put the trash cans. it was a system of vents to remove the odors. If we had a substiture teacher we would go into the vent and climb up to the next classrom and make noises or throw pieces of chalk up at the teacher and they never knew where it was coming from. they thought it was someone in their class

My sixth grade teach would put students in those little lockers if we acted up too much when she put us out in the hall. A fun thing to do when you were out in the hall was to hold a book out flat and level with the floor and drop it from about eye-level. It would make a noise like a gunshot echoing down the halls. Such fun. Ah the good ol' days.

the middle school had no AC. it had sash style windows all along the outside wall. so on nice days they would be open. So again if we had a sub, we would try to jump out the windows and go hang out in te field at the end of the school yard.

We had no air conditioning the whole time I was in grade school (1-8). We also gave subs hell... that seems to be a universal tradition everywhere.

why did it always seem the subs were so easy to put things over on? I remember one would pass around a piece of paper and have you sign it. there would be 20 signatures and only like 11 people in the class

Our favorite as kids was in band when we had a sub. Everyone got to experiment with different instruments that they had never played before. And the sub wondered how we could suck so bad.

In 9th grade history we had an old guy who everyone thought was a communist. Boring class, so my gf and I decided to liven it up by secretly dropping an unrolled condom on the floor in front of the teacher's desk. Took him about 10 minutes to realize what the class was laughing about, then he swept it up in the trash can with a rolled up paper.

Along the same lines of secretly leaving stuff in the classroom, I went hunting with my dad and brought home a pheasant. Strung up the feet from the ceiling of the band room about 5 feet above where the teacher sat. Took him about 15 minutes to find what the band was laughing at.

Those were all in Junior High. In High School, a friend and I had horticulture class and we weren't much into pulling weeds, so the teacher would let us sneak out of school and drive over to Baskin Robbins. We'd bring him back something after we'd stop and smoke a little weed first. We brought him back a "moa moa punch float with daiquiri ice ice cream". It was actually a good combination, but just telling him what it was called made him give us funny looks. He was on to us, but was pretty good about it all.

And then there was the sharpening the pencils and throwing them like darts up into the acoustic ceiling. Them were the days. By the time I went back to college, it was all work and no play.

Yeah I remember in high school half the teachers as well as students were high at least half the time, and I never really had to crack a book or take a book home and still pull about a B average, but in community college (1st 2 years) all of a sudden we had to actually WORK at our studies and take books home. Then when I went to university for the 3rd and 4th college years it was twice again as hard... VERY competitive and it would piss me off, I'd be thinking, I must be outta my mind that I'm not getting paid at all but rather I'm actually PAYING these people to work my ass off...

our school was broken into wings the 100 wing was science, 300 wing languages, 500 history and social sciences, 200 arts/music there was an area ath the end of the 300 wing that was dubed the 600 wing. this is where everyone went to get high. one day 3 of us were smoking a joint outside a classroom door that opened to the outside. it was a warm day so the teacher opend the door to let some air in the class. Well there stands my friend george with the joint to his lips and the teacher 3' from him. he made a passing motion to her as if to say you want a hit? she just laughed and closed the door

Police hunting 'radioactive' man

pa.press.net
Saturday, 28 February 2009

Police are hunting a "dangerously radioactive" college principal on child porn charges.

Seriously-ill Thomas Leopold, who had recently been given large doses of radiation
for a thyroid condition, skipped bail shortly before his trial two weeks ago,
got on a ferry to Ireland and disappeared.

The 42-year-old, head of a tutorial college in Harrow, Middlesex, is said to be dangerous
in terms of radioactivity for six weeks after his treatment.

I have a chip on my shoulder about "professionals" in the education system ... I know too many of them
and too much about their personal lives....

it's sometimes frustrating to be at the mercy of Professors who can't always be fair, honest and sane,
yet somehow they secure these teaching positions and have a little too much power to yield at their whim

My 6th grade teacher was a real tyrant, she was so old that my mom had her as a teacher when she was in school. She was one of two unmarried who taught my mother as well as me... the other one was an alright gal and a good teacher... but my mom is 35 years older than me so having the same teachers she had was kind of weird to say the least.
