I was wondering 'strategic' wise...as if one was really into trying to help a candidate win

wait ....before I waste time, I need to see exactly what goes on w/ early voting....duh!

I have never voted before...I have never even paid a bit of attention to the whole process...
I was kinda under the assumption that early votes are disclosed...but I don't think they are,
I couldn't find anything that indicated they were...I did find MSNBC's offer of Poll results , state by state ...
for whatever that may be worth

I guess I don't really know the answer to that. I don't know much about political strategy. I read a story once where the President, Vice-President, House Speaker, Pres Pro Temp of the Senate, and all of the President's cabinet were killed, leaving only the Secretary of Agriculture alive to succeed to the Presidency. That would seem to be sort of an ideal situation to me. Not that I would wish any harm upon our beloved leaders though, just hypothetically thinkin'...

I can see where it might be nice to avoid long lines and such , but I was reading about past elections and where surprising statements were issued just days before final voting

As a general kind of thing, I'd say that the longer we wait, the more last-minute info we might learn, which might affect the way we vote... but on the other hand, I usually know which way I'll vote in a presidential election, months before the votes are cast.
