| I was watching Ovation TV...a serial Art show called "Art or Not"
at least 4 of the artist/art critics claimed that "art's duty is to raise the veiwer's consciousness"
I just thought that opinion seemed pretentious ... if I took it the way it seemed they meant it... like they meant "cause a brilliant epiphany" or teach me something wise and spiritually enlightening that I could not have possibly considered without their creative intervention.
I am satisfied for art to just evoke an emotion....any emotion...up, down, sideways...whatever.
isn't it kind of arrogant to think your art is gonna "raise a consciousness" ?

| I don't think *my* art is likely to raise anybody's consciousness, but I think Renoir's art is cabable of raising my consciousness. I think it's okay for me to aspire to create art that will raise people's consciousness, maybe even my own... "Art" with a capital "A" is a lofty goal... it would be arrogant of me to assume that others are, or should be, affected by it in any way... for me I see big differences between aspiring to raise consciousness, and achieving that goal, and, in thinking, or believing, that I have achieved that goal... but I think it's a good thing to set lofty goals, and to aspire to be something greater than might ever be actually realized...
I humbly offer this poem, written in 2005 on the subject of aspiration...
S.O.P. for Super(man/woman)thing --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Superman isn't someone I can be, Nor is Superwoman anyone you can be. Superman's an idealized, fictionalized fantasy concept Of what (I/you/he/she/it) or a child can aspire to be. Super is a concept to reach for, and try to Grab it as firmly in your hands as you can, But only if you aspire to be more like a hero, And less like a villain, in your fantasy imagery. Superman never lies, but sometimes, well, I'd have to admit to you that I've lied before, And I guess it's also true that I might lie again, So I'm flawed, and, there you go, I'm not really Superman at all, am I? Should I give up now? Should I just stop trying to be Superman? Did I fall because I wasn't really trying hard enough? Is Superman just too high above the human race That we shouldn't reach for him at all? I can't Grab him in my hand, it's true, but maybe if I Reach for him hard enough, I might be able to Touch him, and maybe I can draw just enough Super strength for my efforts, that I'll ENABLE Myself to keep touching him, again and again. Every time I touch him, I'll gain in strength, I Know now that this is true, because I just touched Superwoman, and though I might never be able To touch her again, she helped me touch the Superman in myself, again and again. And so, now? I'll just keep being Superman, if only in my Aspirations and the goals that I'll keep trying To set for myself. They may seem unrealistic. They may seem idealized and unobtainable, And maybe most of them really are, but Maybe, every now and then, I still might be able To grab one, and that makes it all worthwhile To keep reaching and grabbing and trying to Touch my own Super(man/woman) thing.

| I dunno... eventually someone would get all mad and make a counter dual and flame me....then I'd have to make a 3rd dual....then someone might mistake that one for someone else and mess with their main ID when it was actually their yet -discovered dual that really started it all way back before anyone even agreed to have fun with duals
then another party might try to make a dual pretending to be me or one of my duals and "accidently" offend another... and someone would have to make a dual to protect the innocent...
well, I just can't afford the extra time

| Admin would just roll eyes and ban everyone ... causing a castastrophic collapse of tainted free speech that would ripple and warp the careless minds of the people into a troll like feeding frenzy of psuedo cannibalism... or something like that ... it's just a theory | |

| as for art ,,,,,,,,, it, like beauty, is in the eye if the beholder. Disgust, relusion, and incredulity are all emotions, but nothing that stirs those emotions in me would qualify as art for me. And when it comes to the "old masters" some of it is just boring. I am nt sure that disqualifies it as art - oh sure a particular piece may have changed the way art was done at the time, or been head and shoulders above what their contemporaries were doing at the time, but they are just paintings of some fop dressed in blue as far as I am concerned ,,,,,,,,,, | |

| art comes in so many shapes and forms. It's all about what appeals to you. some people can see beauty in abstracts or even simple line forms. to some it is in the form of a sound. to others in a stimulating thought. | |
